PROFILE – DAVE HORNE
Media
David HorneBorn in Wellington, New Zealand, Dave moved his Softball family, wife Chris, son Phil and daughter Vanessa to Brisbane in 1989. He was involved with Softball, prior to the move, as a senior player, coach and administrator. One day Dave was asked to fill in as a commentator for Wellington Softball administrator/commentator Colin Ward at Hataitai Park, which as it turned out, was the start of something special.

Upon reaching Brisbane in 1989, Dave was again asked the same question but from the Brisbane Softball Association and then later on by the organizers of The Woman’s National Fastpitch League. He enjoyed the hype so much that he has been a regular face/voice of the Brisbane Softball scene, in Club, State and National Level ever since.

When New Zealand hosted the 2004 Men’s World Series in Christchurch, he was asked to ‘do his thing’ on the World stage. “Boy, what a buzz that was, scary and sometimes tricky in having to get the names correct of players from Japan, Samoa and the Chez Republic” he said. “I think everyone appreciates what I do, the main thing is to respect the players, umpires & spectators plus have the timing of music and the odd sound effect ready to go, all to just spice it up a bit!”.

Dave is involved for the inaugural Southern Cross Challenge and is looking forward to calling the games in the only way he can, tons of hype, a few laughs and fantastic vision of the game he has been involved with for more than 45 years.
